Children’s Bereavement Center and VITAS Innovative Hospice Care collaborate at Miami Country Day School for new Bereavement Peer Support Group site in Miami Shores - For Immediate Release - 7/20/11
After 13 years of providing services to grieving children and families in the South Dade area, the Children’s Bereavement Center (CBC) is expanding its services to North Dade. This new site, opening September 2011, will provide Bereavement Peer Support Groups at Miami Country Day School and will be operated through collaboration between CBC and VITAS Innovative Hospice Care. VITAS employees and volunteers are trained by the CBC to facilitate support groups according to the CBC Healthful Grieving Model. Services at this new site will allow for children and families in North Dade to access a proven model of support that offers opportunity for a healthy adjustment in the face of loss.
The Children's Bereavement Center provides free Peer Support Groups for children and their family members after a loss. Groups are open to anyone who has lost a parent, sibling, grandparent, relative, or friend as a result of illness, accident, suicide, or homicide. The CBC Peer Support Groups are ongoing and families are able to attend for as long as needed. The CBC does not engage in clinical therapy.
Groups are held weekly throughout the school year, and are open to children age 5 through young adult as well as parents and adult caregivers. Adult support groups are available in both English and Spanish. Free pizza dinner is also provided prior to groups.
Families must attend Orientation (held monthly) prior to attending. Please contact the CBC office at 305-668-4902 for information or to register.
The Children’s Bereavement Center (CBC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (#CH10400) and contributions are tax-deductible under IRS regulations. CBC receives 100% of each contribution.
