Iris Salzberg I’m Iris Salzberg and I’ve been volunteering at the Children’s Bereavement Center for 9 years. All this time I worked the elementary school group; as a retired teacher I love working with young children. Learn more about the CBC on our Homepage Check out others involved with the CBC... |
I’ve told countless people about the center, and their eyes tear at hearing about these children who have suffered losses. Often they think that it must be depressing working here, but the opposite is true. These children show indomitable spirit and a love of life. Yes, they have suffered traumatic losses, but they are able to play, participate in art projects, respond to books about death, and express themselves about their experiences, even through tears. The children have taught me that young ones can be resilient and can go on with their lives while putting the hurt aside. They know, and express the fact, that the pain never goes away, but talking about it with others in their same situation is an immeasurable help. That is the essence of the Children’s Bereavement Center; such a program should be accessible to children in every community. Thank-you very much, Iris
The year is coming to a close and you might be considering different tax strategies to give to your favorite charities. You may want to look into your stock portfolios for any highly appreciated stocks and donate them in kind. You may be able to avoid the taxes on the sale and may also get a nice charitable deduction as well. Please consult your Investment professional and your tax advisor to be sure this strategy is appropriate for your individual situation. |
