Dear Family and Friends,

I have been volunteering with the Children’s Bereavement Center since Fall, 2006. The Children's Bereavement Center is an organization that continues to promote the well-being of children and families who are dealing with the loss of a loved one.  Since 1999, the CBC has been providing a safe and nurturing environment where children who have experienced the death of a loved one can come to feel support, a sense of belonging and find some normalcy in their lives.

I was asked to become involved by a close friend who had lost his father at the tender age of 6-years-old in nothing short of a horrific incident. Due to my love of children, my choice was effortless and I immediately gravitated towards the Elementary Group. For me, the younger ones have a strong need to understand and a unique and innocent will to cope with the loss of a loved one.

Once I began volunteer facilitating with the Elementary Group, my passion grew and grew. I have seen children come to this facility from all walks of life, as soon as one week after a traumatic death to years after trying to cope with a death. It has been an amazing journey, particularly in witnessing the ones who have routinely come to the center for years. Some of these children’s routine participation has truly helped them evolve into beautiful individuals, and it is incredibly fulfilling to know I have been a part of that. The loss of a loved one shapes the rest of a child’s life and the decisions he or she makes for the future more than we know or will ever comprehend.

Therefore, I have a profound realization that the existence of the Children’s Bereavement Center is significant at any age and all stages of the grieving process. These children have the opportunity to fully let go and be themselves, along with the chance to interact with other peers who have experienced a similar loss. This interaction helps create consistency that so many of them crave after enduring a traumatic experience.

Now more than ever, it is important that we get involved and participate in caring for those around us.  Your kindness helps to make our world and our lives better.  Times are tough for everyone, especially for those who rely on the kindness of others to help the community.

Groups are provided free of charge and families are welcome to participate for as long as they like.  Currently, the CBC holds peer support groups for over 300 children and family members each month.

Your tax-deductible contribution (any amount helps) will ensure that these children continue to get the support they need. If you cannot contribute at this time, please forward this information to anyone you know who may be interested in donating to this cause. Thanks!

I wish you well and am always grateful for your friendship and generosity,

Best regards,

Jaclyn Reisman
