My involvement with the CBC began more than 6 years ago when I was trained by Mindy and Carol to be a Volunteer Facilitator while working in the public school system as a Social Worker. My involvement grew over the years to one of Lead Facilitator in the adult peer support group. And now, I can’t believe it has already been a year since I joined the CBC on a full-time basis as the Program and Training Coordinator.

Dear Friends –

When I first started working with the Children’s Bereavement Center (CBC), Lauren would say to me “Mom, the stories are so sad.  How can you work there?” I agreed with her, the stories are so sad.  However, when the more than 300 people each month come to the CBC, they are able to share their sad stories with strangers who become their support system and their life-line and companion them as they heal.

When a death occurs, an incredible journey begins.   Often time, that journey begins with feelings of isolation, anger, loneliness and despair.  In the last five years of working for the CBC I have been a part of countless peoples’ journeys.  It is with the support of the CBC, the other participants, volunteers and facilitators that children and their families are able to slowly re-build their lives after loss.

We are the only non-profit, comprehensive bereavement resource center in the tri-county area.  In the last year I’ve been involved with giving trainings and workshops to professionals in our community who seek to know more about death, dying and bereavement.   As loss of life consultants we have provided support to our community.  We answer questions on a daily basis about “how to tell the kids”.

The CBC exists because there are sad stories.  Luckily, our community has a place to turn when sad happens.  My work with the CBC has given me great pleasure as I am witness to people’s journey toward integrating loss into their lives.

Please consider supporting the CBC and all it does for the children and families of our community.

Thank you very much.

Kathy
