Dear Friends,
Most recently I have been privileged to serve on the board of the Children’s Bereavement Center (CBC), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. The mission of CBC is to restore a sense of hope for the future to children and families that have lost a loved one, and to provide support in the adjustment to loss.
The CBC, founded in 1999, is a comprehensive, multicultural, community-based, bereavement support, education and resource center. The CBC provides peer support groups for children, teens and young adults who are grieving the death of a loved one. The CBC also extends supportive services and resources to families, caregivers, schools and the South Florida community. All peer support groups are FREE of charge and made possible by a limited CBC organization (5 full time employees) and over 300 community volunteers. Amazing!!!
Having been recently blessed with a wonderful wife and two children of my own, I now have a greater appreciation for the family bond, how special it is, and how fragile it can be. My initial involvement with the CBC, and understanding more about family tragedies, has added to this appreciation in a very insightful and moving way. I could not fathom the impact of such a loss and feel humble and blessed to be this fortunate.
With my “new” perspective, I have felt obligated to take a more active role in giving back to the community through my involvement with the CBC. While times are challenging for everyone, it is times like these when our support is needed the most.

The year is coming to a close and you might be considering different tax strategies to give to your favorite charities. You may want to look into your stock portfolios for any highly appreciated stocks and donate them in kind.
